Cricket Competition

The Southern Skies Challenge is an annual, week-long, cricket competition held in Brisbane at the start of the christmas school holidays. The event attracts teams from across Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. The five competition days feature one day matches with 45 over innings. Teams will compete against at least four different teams during the competition, and match ups on the final day will be determined by previous results. For all other final matches except the Grand Final, teams will play a team they haven't previously met.

The Level of Competition

Southern Skies welcomes teams of all skill levels. The level of competition will vary - our experience shows that we will have strong teams and not so strong teams play in the event. There is no knock-out - all teams will play every day.

Venues

All matches are played on quality turf wickets at some of Brisbane's leading schools. Play on synthetic wickets will only be considered in the event of heavy rain prior to the start of play.

Officials and Sports Medicine

Fully qualified sports medicine personnel are on-site at all match venues throughout the week. Should injuries occur, service from these professionals is included in your package. Ice for injuries is also available at no charge.

All matches are officiated by two fully accredited umpires supplied by the Queensland Cricket Umpires & Scorers' Association.

Enter Impact Cricket Academy Website

Pre or post Southern Skies Challenge 2009, the touring cricketers can take a great opportunity to participate in a 3-day coaching clinic conducted by the Impact Cricket Academy. During this time the Academy's professional, accredited coaches will teach the young cricketers the "Australian Way" of playing the game of cricket.

Each boy will be digitally videotaped and given an analysis on CD of his batting and bowling and coaching tips to improve his game. The touring coaching staff will also find the experience of great benefit and gain a great deal from our Academy coaches. A cricket match will follow against the Brisbane Boys' College Director's XI.
