About Brisbane

Australia’s only sub-tropical capital city lies between the ocean and the mountains and around a winding river. It is a safe yet vibrant venue for the Tournament and offers you many options in your free time.

Winter time temperatures during the day generally average 20?C and for the evenings around 9?C. So even though it is not really cold, we do recommend visitors bring something warm to slip on at night. Even in winter, it is the ideal city in which to soak up the outdoor lifestyle whilst enjoying dozens of parks, gardens, outdoor markets and shopping, all within close proximity to the majestic Brisbane River.

Here are some suggestions for your spare time.

Get out on the Brisbane River
We really recommend that you ride the City Cat along the Brisbane River and with the ability to ‘get on/get off’ you can venture to downtown Brisbane, South Bank, Eagle Street and New Farm Park. You’ll see Brisbane from a whole new perspective.

Go shopping
The city centre and a number of large suburban shopping centres provide retail therapy relief. Late night shopping can be enjoyed until 9pm on Thursdays in the suburban centres and Friday nights in the city centre. Check out www.ourbrisbane.com.au.

For something a little different, enjoy the carnival atmosphere of South Bank markets. Colourful stalls are open until 10pm on Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Catch a movie
You will find cinemas in the city centre or at the major suburban shopping centres situated nearby to your accommodation. www.ourbrisbane.yourmovies.com.au

Take a winter swim
At South Bank take a winter time refreshing plunge in Brisbane’s only man-made beach and lagoon. Streets Beach overlooks the Brisbane River across to the city centre. Or you can organise a post event stay at the beautiful Gold Coast.

Take a walk
Wander along the South Bank boardwalk where you can relax over coffee and satisfy your tastebuds at any number of cafes and restaurants situated there or in nearly Little Stanley Street.
Cross over the Goodwill Bridge and visit the stunning city Botanical Gardens where you would not even know you were right in the city or walk along the imposing Kangaroo Point cliffs. Climb the Story Bridge for a birds-eye view of Brisbane and its surrounds. www.storybridgeadventureclimb.com.au
