About Southern Skies & Our Event Partners
Founded in 1998, Southern Skies is a unique educational initiative of Brisbane Boys' College, one of Brisbane's most prestigious, oldest, and yet progressive schools. Southern Skies is a self-funding organisation dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of all who attend our events.
Through the sporting events we host, we provide a distinctive educational and cultural encounter that will remain a highpoint of students’ time at school. Our events, the Southern Skies Tournament in July and the Southern Skies Challenge in December, feature various team sports and cater for both boys and girls.
The multicultural atmosphere of all of the events is highlighted by our simple but significant motto "uniting the spirit of youth". Participation in sport is an educational experience with team sports providing a wonderfully varied range of learning situations as well as some of those other really important qualities that people need in life…like teamwork, reward for effort and friendship.

Australian Sport Awards
In 2003 and 2004 Southern Skies Events was nominated as a finalist in the Sports Tourism category of the annual Australian Sport Awards. It is a great honour to be named in such prestigious company as the Rugby World Cup and World Track Cycling Championships. It serves to reinforce how important the Southern Skies Tournament and Challenge have become on the world youth sporting calendar.
