Additional Information
Herewith some additional points to consider prior to travel:
- Herewith some issues to keep in mind when booking your team's flights for Southern Skies
- We recommend that teams planning on attending Southern Skies book their group airfares as soon as they are able. Airfare quotes are only valid for a certain period of time and prices do increase steadily as seats are sold.
- Most accommodation venues will only allow access to rooms after 1.00 or 2.00pm on arrival day (for most teams, the Sunday 4th July). For any early arriving teams, accommodations will provide secure on-site baggage storage freeing you up to explore the city without your luggage.
- Your first scheduled meal within the all-inclusive travellers package is dinner on the Sunday evening. Your final scheduled meal within the all-inclusive travellers package is breakfast on the following Saturday morning.
- A certain number of our Tournament accommodation providers allow pre and post night stays for those teams wishing to arrive in Brisbane a day or two earlier or depart later. Just let us know.
- It is impossible for us to predict where teams will come from in any given year and for that matter, how many teams will actually attend. Because of the international nature of the Tournament, it is not possible to pre-grade or seed teams so our playing structure is tailored to take this into account.
- Particular accommodation allocations will not be completed, and therefore notified to teams, until approximately 3 weeks prior to the event. As teams regularly add or subtract participants up until this time, this is to ensure that there are enough beds for teams to be accommodated together.
- Please note that the Tournament is held during Brisbane's winter, and we do actually experience a degree of cold weather. For most travelling teams this is not usually a problem as our winter's are relatively mild in comparison. However ... as Brisbane's winters are relatively short most buildings do not have the kind of heating systems you may be used to. Whilst all accommodations do provide blankets and other warm bedding, please remind players to bring warm clothing, jumpers and pyjamas to wear in the evenings.
- Competition draws typically are not finalised until approximately 3 weeks prior to the event due to the inevitable late entrant or withdrawal.
- The weather is one thing we cannot manage but the Tournament is held in a period of typically low rainfall. If it rains ... we have structured procedures in place for each sport.
- Snacks, morning and afternoon tea are at own discretion and cost.
- Transportation via Queensland Ambulance is only provided free for Queensland residents, and any charges incurred by non-Queensland residents is not covered by Southern Skies. This will be reclaimable via your travel/medical insurance.
- We endeavour to present a quality event in all aspects and the success of this is reflected in the growth of the event and the number of teams that return. We therefore welcome constructive feedback to ensure our event continues to improve and deliver what is wanted.
